one sentence

i am a complete sucker for journals.

i love, love, love them.

that being said, I probably have about 1,271 journals that are about a quarter of the way filled out. I just lose zest and think the solution to write more would be... dun dun dun...

another journal :)

vicious cycle continues.

a few months ago I came across the one sentence journals and thought what a great idea they were.

i went with the "happiness project" journal and have absolutley loved it.

it forces me to slow down, and for at least two minutes a day, reflect on what I am grateful for.

and then eventually, in one nice, neat organized little place, you will have a five year record of a brief snippet of your everyday life.

what else i LOVE about this journal is the quotes. There is one for every day, and they range from light-hearted to deep, Buddha ism's :)

the quote a few days ago really struck a cord.

i so love it. so true! and the way to avoid it? be happy in THIS moment. i haven't quite got it all down, but I am doing everything in my might these days to just soak up the moment and be happy. even if that means taking pictures of what my errands got me on friday :)

these things just make me so happy. it might be silly, it might seem so irrelevant but it makes me happy and makes me smile.  and if in these cold, dark, dreary days, some daffadils brighten my afternoon? then so be it :)

what little things are making you happy these days?

2014

i have sat down probably 10 times to write a post in this little ole blog but just haven't been sure which route i want to take in this little old blog.

yes, i still love a good find at target.

still love pinterest ideas and seeing them come to fruition.

but ya know what? the last few minutes I feel like God has really been pressing something into my soul.

that is not what we are here for.

I am not here to take artsy fartsy instagram pictures and see how many "likes" i can get.

i am not here to have the cutest decorations in our guest room.

i don't want my worth and happiness to be defined by what a great deal I got at Target. or how many cross fit workouts I did that week.

and a few months ago, I felt like I was going down that way.

once again, i still am drawn to all these sad sob news stories happening around the world.

just today, a senior at one of our local high schools was killed in a car accident.  when it comes down to it, what really matters? that I had awesome Christmas decorations and cute wrapping paper?

i drive down that same hill she drove down all the time. that could have so easily been me. who flipping cares that the dessert I made for my new year's party tasted like sdf&83*? ( i am ashamed to admit that my failed champagne cake fail put me in a bad mood for literally half a day.)

nope. pretty sure that is not what God has in mind with our precious time here.

and this blog tended to make me focus on things that I don't really want to focus on in 2014. simple as that. :)

so here's to a new year and a new focus :)

cheers! :)

had our college roommate christmas brunch last weekend.

thank you katie for hosting :)

we played Oprah and each brought three of our "favorite things". we drew names and each ended up with some goodies.

julia brought scarves which is why three people in the picture have the same scarf.

i cannot explain why all the people who got julia's scarves also happened to be wearing stripes. we are weird. :) and i love it :)

xoxoxo
