Vitamin D

While pumping gas today, i heard two funny conversations:

1.) The car in front of me was pumping diesel into a NON diesel car. The man started SCREAMING at the woman, who blamed it on the "sunstroke" she got at the lake. (no i was not staring)

2.) The woman pumping gas into the car next to mine was trying to swipe her debit card.
Ya know how sometimes the pumps ask for your zip code?
She then got on her cell phone, and all I could hear was,
"What's our zip code again? I cannot remember for the life
of me. I think the sun zapped all my brain power."

We reached 70 degrees for the first time in 200 days :) Can ya blame us?

All on a Lunch Break

Right by my work is a SUPER Wal-mart. Since we don't have one of these close to my house (we just have the regular ole Wal-mart and I despise it) when I'm bored I like to go and wander all that is SUPER Wal-Mart.

At that stupid store you ALWAYS end up with stuff in your basket that you DO. NOT. need. Like seriously. I get to the checkout with what was supposed to just be my make-up remover (or whatever it is i think i NEED that day) and have so much stuff I can't even be in the express lane.

Such was the story a few days ago. I was barely over the 8 item limit and being the good Samaritan that I was, sucked it up, braced myself to wait a good fifteen minutes and hopped in a normal line with my measly 9 items.

Finally I got to where there was only two customers ahead of me.

1.COUPON LADY

The worker had finished bagging this ladies gazillion bags and told her the total. The lady looked back at the line, looked at the cashier and said. "Please don't hate me." She then proceeded to hand the cashier a stack of COUPONS like an inch thick. You could HEAR the groans from everyone else in line and the cashier gave her a death glare.

Now, I know that saving money is AWESOME and the coupon craze is pretty cool. (I watch the couponing shows just like the next person). BUUUUUT. To be on the other side of the situation? Perhaps if you KNOW you have a gazillion coupons, maybe try and schedule your shopping trip not at noon during a weekday? I was seriously SOO annoyed. (Plus side: I got to continue reading about Kim Kardashian's "pregnancy")

2. OLD LADY

Even before the coupons were unveiled, the lady in front of me (seriously she was 4 feet tall and looked JUST like Betty White in 20 years) asked if I liked shopping at Wal-Mart. I smiled, gave her an answer and continued perusing the tabloids. Oh. My. Goodness. That dear old lady would NOT leave me alone and literally asked 10 questions about each item in my cart. I learned about her retirement party 20 years ago, her favorite type of instant oatmeal and her little dog. So she finally checks out and is walking away when she hobbles back to me and says... NO JOKE HERE. "Would you like to come over to my house sometime? I could make you lunch. I just live down the street. Look me up in the phonebook. My last name is Johnson. I look forward to hearing from you soon."

I manage some sort of reply and when its finally MY turn at the check stand, the cashier says, "At first I thought that was really cute, but then I realized you guys didn't know each other..." First of all, even if I DID try and call the crazy lady... Johnson? In the phone book? Ummmm.... there are TONS of Johnsons. Second of all, just weird.

3.) EYEBROW LADY

After escaping Wal-mart, I head to get a quick brow wax at my favorite little salon. However, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. as I am walking to the counter to pay, she says, "THAT WILL BE EIGHT DOLLAR." And I hand over my debit card, she runs it, and the receipt she gives me says TEN DOLLARS.

Now, it specially says TIP is not included. I know it shouldn't bug me, but I get soooo irritated. I don't care about the extra two bucks, but don't SAY it is only $8 then. Why then, you ask, do I keep going there? Don't know. Or even better, why don't I ASK the freaking lady why she says 8 and runs it for 10? Good question. And yes. I still tip her. My eyebrows are very difficult little buggers and she handles the monsters well ;)

I finally stumble back into work on what seemed like the longeessttt hour of my life with not much to show for it.

Except I do.

The coupon lady? What I might not have mentioned is that when I asked the cashier if she got a lot of extreme couponers, she shrugged and yes, and that most were annoying :) But the lady I had been annoyed with for slowing down the line? She came in once a month with those coupons and all the stuff she bought? She donated it to a local food bank.

What about my little old lady friend Miss Johnson? Believe it or not, I saw her the NEXT DAY when I ran in to return my RedBox rentals at Wal-Mart. She once again asked if I was going to come over. (Had it not been for her Betty White resemblance, I would not even have recognized her.) Her husband said, "Geez, honey. Leave the girl alone. She isn't Sadie." He then proceeded to tell me that I looked like their daughter who had passed away...

And the eyebrow place? When I was leaving (annoyed at my extra two dollar charge) I told the worker to enjoy the sunny weather. She laughed and said "Sunshine? What sunshine?" I turned to her and said, "Well. did you get to enjoy the weather on your day off?" She laughed again. She doesn't get days off. She works EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. She proceeded to tell me in the last five years she has had... 6. DAYS. OFF!! IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS!

Do ya know what I learned on that hour long lunch break? A huge lesson.

Three Things Tuesday

1.) WALMART EXPRESS! Okay so. The first one is set to open this week somewhere in Arkansas. They are being opened to compete with the "dollar" type stores and will only have 10% of what the big stores have. They are being designed to just carry the stuff you forget and need to run and grab. Need eggs and nail polish remover but don't feel like going to Walmart and trekking through the mobs of people? Walmart Express is your answer. Just the important stuff, at WalMart prices. What do y'all think? :)

2.) HOW FUN IS THIS?!!!

3.) I read somewhere that 59,000 thoughts go through our brains each day, and 70% of them are NEGATIVE!

At first I thought that was absolutely ridiculous and was totally wrong. 70%?????? But since I have been aware of that statistic, I have noticed how pessimistic I actually am. I am gonna work on being more positive. Let's at least try and get this down to 50%, which would mean HALF of our thoughts are happy :) Let's work on that, k? :)

Not My Kind of Art Project

What do you get when you combine this and this?
Your normal Sunday morning routine? Hmm. More power to ya, I guess. ;)

Instead of taking vodka shots and reading the Sunday Comics, I decided to try an artsy idea I had seen featured on Pinterest.

Cool, huh? Your paint your nails a lovely chic, light color (this was difficult. I had to sort through my 12,032 bottles of HOT pink. I ended up having to use the nail polish that you use for a french manicure. Whateva works.)

Then when they are completely dry, you dip them in alcohol. Rubbing alcohol or whatever is handy. Is that bad that a gallon of Vodka was what was most handy? :)

You cut little 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch squares of newspaper and rub them onto your alcohol soaked nail. Leave it on for a couple minutes and gently peel off. Adult silly putty. (remember being able to put silly putty on the newspaper and it would come off? So cool. :)

Was I expecting to look just like a stylish New Yorker drinking my triple shot mocha reading the New York Times in an upscale coffee shop? I think I was. These nails just scream sophistication to me.

Oh my goodness. Or does that scream vampire girl who needs a suntan, some finger liposuction and a clearer camera? :) (and while we are being superficial, let's throw in some cuticle work in there too, shall we? :)

(It also probably didn't help that I noticed the article I had cut up and pasted on my nails was about Dr. Kevorkian's life. Weird.)

It was just so not me. So I didn't even do the other hand. :(

And I took a shot of the vodka and went back to bed. just KiDDIng ;)

It's fun to sometimes try new things and break out of our little bubbles, but I also think it is SO important to be okay with some things just not working for us. For instance, rompers. Or french braided side bangs. One strap dresses. So cute, just not for me; and I am learning to be okay with that :)

Daisy Doodle

We have never really been an animal family.

Well, actually. My mom STRONGLY dislikes animals. I mean she isn't mean to them or anything, they just really aren't for her. So. ya know. We weren't one of those families who got to go on trips to the pet store or the humane society. When momma isn't happy, ain't nobody happy? :) I mean yes, she let us have a puppy and goldfish, but my sister and I just aren't really animal people now ;)

I blame our childhood and my grandparent's cat that was deaf, only had one eye and no tail. When we were little, my cousin would lock me in the bathroom with good ole' Moose. Can you say umm. traumatizing? Yes. Thanks a lot Ryan. :)

Meet Daisy Doodle. Anyone who knows my sister will think this is soooo funny :) See guys, she does have a heart. She doesn't hate ALLL animals ;) In fact, I don't think anything with fur has ever been this close to her face in her entire life.

We are making progress, people :)

Praise 106.5

In between my rap stations, country and soft rock on my preset radio stations, I also listen to PRAISE 106.5 Famillyyyyy friendly station. (you know the jingle and it will now be stuck if your head if you are from the Pacific NW or Canada :)

It is so crazy to me how whenever I am flipping through my preset stations and land on PRAISE, I hear a song or some words of wisdom that speak STRAIGHT to my heart. It is always JUST what I need to hear at that moment and it just amazes me.

So, I had finished rocking out to 93.3 'cuz baby you're a fiiirrreeeeework, did a little country with Mr. McGraw and was practicing my falsetto with my soft rock favorites to "sometimes the snow comes down in June, sometimes the sun goes round the moooooon (I apologize for anyone driving next to me) when I flipped it over to PRAISE.

"Cast all your anxieties on the Lord. He WANTS them."

It was just the DJ talking before a "1/2 hour of non-stop music" but his words literally made my heart skip a beat.

How many times have I heard about casting my worries and anxieties (and boy, do I have a lot of those :) on the Lord. I have read ENTIRE books on this, done ENTIRE bible studies and prayed over and over and over.

The part that got me? That the Lord WANTS my worries, my problems and my biggest fears.

I always feel like I have the same problems over and over and it seems soooo petty to keep praying and praying and praying about them. Like God is getting annoyed and saying, "seriously? This is what you are bringing to me AGAIN?" Like I get embarrassed and think I should work on some worries on my own, and pray about more "important" things, like flooding and hurricanes.

But ya know what? He doesn't get annoyed with us. He doesn't get sick of our same worries and our same fears. He WANTS us to give them to him.

Is that reassuring or what?!!!!!!!

I think I am going to try and tune in to 106.5 more often when I'm on the road; sorry Lady Gaga, I will have to save your songs for the treadmill for the next couple of days :)
