Very Unprepared

Friday night was the third year in a row that Drew and I have gone to Opening Day for the Seattle Mariners. Last year was okay; the first year we went? A complete disaster. We were running VERY late. Couldn't find parking. As in couldn't find a SINGLE spot to park and we were willing to pay big money. Misunderstandings. Lack of communication. He got mad that we couldn't find a spot, I thought he was blaming me. Ya know, typical miscommunication :) Ended up we had to park in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant under a sign that said "NO EVENT PARKING, WE WILL TOW." We had to walk like 3 miles to the stadium. and when I say walk to the game, I mean Drew walked like 100 feet ahead of me. I wouldn't talk to him and I spent the ENTIRE game crying. Yes. Crying. At a major league baseball game. Anyways...

So this year we were both determined to have a GRAND ole time. We knew Opening Day was busy so we were prepared. We knew we needed to get there early and take whatever parking spot we could find. While I thought we should go with valet parking just to be safe :), he thought I was overreacting a little and we settled on getting to the stadium nice and early and finding a close spot in a parking garage. Sigh of relief.

Since we were PREPARED and knew what to expect, we barely had to wait in line, got to our seats, watched the opening ceremony and even had time to scout out the best stands four our hot dogs and garlic fries.

Don't you just love being prepared? It makes everything run so much smoother. Or so I thought we were prepared...

ME BEING VERY UNPREPARED: I had just decided to wear a tshirt with a hoody to the game. WHAT WAS I THINKING? It's Seattle, people. When people started walking in with their mittens and snowcoats, I knew it was going to be bad. By the second inning, I was wearing Drew's sweatshirt that he had in his truck and could barely feel my toes. I think my face was turning blue.

SAFECO FIELD BEING VERY UNPREPARED: The stadium ran out of HOT DOG BUNS. and BEER. Not even halfway through the game. No joke.

THE MARINERS BEING VERY UNPREPARED: I think by the 3rd inning it was maybe 7 to 0. The final score? Indians 12, Mariners 1.

The funny part? WE HAD A GREAT TIME!

Just when I was patting myself on the back for being so prepared and getting to the game on-time and dealing with the horrendous parking situation, everything started going wrong. It was a good reminder that nothing is going to be perfect, no matter how "prepared" we may think we are. We just gotta roll with the punches, even if it means having to eat a taco salad at a baseball game. I sure was craving that hot dog :) Maybe next game we go to I will bring an extra pack of buns in my purse just in case they run out again, I like to be prepared ya know... :)
